Test Case Field Reference – TestFirst

Below you can find the Field Reference table for Test Cases.

Field

Description

Project

You can pick any existing project. The Project field will be auto populated based on the location of the node you picked to create the test case in.

Project field cannot be empty.

Suite

You can pick any existing test suite under the selected project or leave it empty.

Section

You can pick any existing test section under the selected suite or leave it empty.

Subsection

You can pick any existing test subsection under the selected section or leave it empty.

Title*

A required field. You can enter any suitable text as the Title.

Title cannot be longer than 255 characters.

Precondition

You can enter any precondition text you want or leave this field empty.

Precondition cannot be longer than 1000 characters.

Steps

This section of the page contains test step actions and expected results.

To add a test step:

Click on ADD NEW STEP button. A test step with placeholders will appear.
Input the relevant test Test Action and Expected result.

Alternatively, steps can be added by adding a test case fragment. Read more about test case fragments here.

Test Action and Expected result cannot be longer than 1000 characters each.

You can use markdown for text formatting following the instructions in Markdown syntax article.
You can rearrange the test steps in any order you need to by selecting a test step and clicking on arrows in the # column.
You can also insert a new step, duplicate a chosen step or delete it by clicking the 3 dots button in the # column to open a context menu. In the context menu select the respective option.

Status

There are two options for the test case Status field. It can be either Draft or Ready for testing.

Test cases in Draft status are not automatically selected when you create a test plan. Read more on that here.

Reference

You can insert a link to an issue in your project tracking system. Multiple links can be inserted, separated by a comma ",".

Reference cannot be longer than 1000 characters.
